The St James Anglican Church, Kununurra is part of the Parish of Kununurra and the Diocese of North West Australia. The first Anglican services in Kununurra were held by visiting ministers, after the town was born in 1961 as a result of the Ord River Scheme. The first resident minister, the Rev Barry Green, arrived in 1965, but was unable to reside in the town for 9 months until the rectory was completed. Although it was in July 1964 that Bishop Frewer called a meeting to discuss raising funds to erect a church hall, Anglican services for about the next twenty five were held in the Catholic Church building, and later in Room 19 of the High School. The present St James church building was opened and consecrated by Archbishop Carnley on 4/11/1990. It was largely funded through the work of the Outback Church Foundation. A Sunday School room was added later in 2008. [Sourced from: https://www.anglicandnwa.org/churches/2018/11/2/kununurra]. The church celebrated its sixtieth anniversary in 2025. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 23/5/2024.
