Foundation Stone Notes:	A number of foundation stones were laid as the building had a number of false starts, due to questions over its size and the economic environment of the time. The foundation stone of the present building was laid in June 1892. The text on the foundation stone is not known. Information/photographs are invited. The St Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, West Melbourne is in the Parish of West Melbourne and the Diocese of Melbourne. It was established about 1873, with the present church building opened and blessed on 18/2/1900, by Cardinal Moran. It took about eight years to build due to its size, and the depressed economic environment of the time making fund raising very difficult. The parishioners persisted and it was eventually opened in 1900, although not fully completed until about 1925. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited.
