The former Holy Trinity Anglican Church, Sebastopol has closed, and the property has been sold (2025). The church had been in the Parish of Sebastopol and part of the Diocese of Ballarat. The front portion of the church building was opened for worship by Bishop Perry on 26/1/1868, the chancel end being closed with wood to allow for future extension. In three years the building was too small, and it was extended to its present size and re-opened on 13/3/1870, with service by Dean Macartney. The first vicar of the church was the Rev Qualter Soares. The church building was restored and beautified and re-hollowed by the Bishop of Ballarat, the Riight Rev Dr W H Johnson on 23/9/1956. The 150th anniversary of the first service was held on 26/1/2018, with a Eucharist held to celebrate. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 12/6/2025.
I received the following personal connection to the church by email on 27/9/2025 from Carol Drury: "I am a sixth generation parishioner of Holy Trinity Sebastopol. My ancestor Frederick William Tatham was instrumental in having the church built. He was the Legal Manager of the Prince of Wales mine no. 1. I attended Sunday school there and was baptised (the first in the new font), confirmed and married there. Sebastopol family connections, Tatham, Batty, Raine and White."
