The first church built in Lake Bolac was the Catholic Church constructed from locally quarried bluestone. It was completed in 1874, and consecrated by Bishop Gould of Melbourne. It was replaced by the current brick St Bernard's Catholic Church building in 1961. The bluestone building was demolished in 1963.
