Elsternwick Uniting Church - Former

The former Elsternwick Uniting Church has closed and the property was sold in 1988. The original Caulfield Union Church, began with a meeting in the home of Mr Thomas Watts. A wooden church building opened on 16/1/1859 in Glen Eira Road. It its early days it was also used as a school. This building was completely destroyed by fire on 19/2/1889. The present site was then purchased and a new church building erected and opened on 11/11/1890. When the 'land boom' collapsed in the early 1890s the Caulfield Union Church found itself in financial distress, with a mortgage of 800 pounds.
