The St Joseph's Catholic Church, Charlton. The Inglewood Advertiser on 25/5/1875 states ' the Catholics of East Charlton have built a church' the church building was of weatherboard construction and was built where the current church stands. In 1906, Bishop Higgins of Ballarat, appealed to the people to build a new church and the foundation stone was laid by the Bishop in February 1907, and opened by him in September 1907.The 1907 church building was destroyed by fire on 1/1/1991. It was replaced by the current building in 1993. The parish celebrated its centenary in 1985. The 100 years appears to be calculated from the date Charlton became a parish in its ownright, whereas before 1885 it was part of the Inglewood Parish. No other details are known. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photograph uploaded 23/2/2020.
