This former Colac Wesley Uniting Church closed some years ago, and the property was sold (2008?). The church had been part of the Uniting Church Synod of Victoria & Tasmania. Although Wesleyan Methodist ministers visited Colac from about the early 1850s, it was not until a small church building was erected in Church Street, in 1858, that a permanent establishment began. A larger church building was erected at 21 Murray Street in 1874, nearly opposite the Commercial Hotel, causing some disquiet among the congregation. This site was sold in 1924 and plans for the present building began. The building of the church and hall began in 1925, with the hall being completed and dedicated on 8/11/1925, and the church building opened on 20/6/1926. The Wesleyan Methodist Church became part of the Methodist Church at Union in 1902, and part of the Uniting Church in 1977. More historical information/photographs of the former churches/congregations are invited. Photographs uploaded 15/1/2018.
