The roof of this building was of shingles and leaked, so people had to use umbrellas during services (What about the school children). - Rev Hose the minister at the time, visited each miner as he worked in his claim and asked him for a donation of time or money to help build a new church. Time donated was credited at ?/6d per day, and counted as part of the local contribution to the cost of the new building. The diocese provided a grant and the cornerstone of the new church was laid on 14th May 1866. - In March 1909 one wall of the church was blown down in a storm. A new chancel was built (to replace the damaged wall?) and was consecrated on 14th September 1909. - On 4th March, 1898 Mr Samuel and Mrs Rinder donated a new hall to the church in memory of their daughter. - Albert Jacka VC was baptised in the church on 28th July 1897.
