The St Andrew's Anglican Church Rye is part of the Parish of Sorrento & Rye and the Diocese of Melbourne. The first building on the site was the Church of England Tootgarook Common School No 623, erected about 1857. It was of a limestone  and 'wattle and daub' construction. The school building also held the first Anglican services conducted about 1857, and was used as a hall and by most other denominations who wanted to hold church services. The school building was condemned about 1874, and later demolished to make way for the present church building, which was opened on 28/5/1882, with divine service conducted by the Rev Thomas Quinton. For the next ten years the Presbyterians also held their services in the new church building. Combined use of the church with the Presbyterians ceased in 1892, when the Presbyterians moved to their own site at the corner of Lyons & Collingwood Streets (see separate entry - 3941).  About this time the church was dedicated to St Andrew. The Sunday School Hall was completed and dedicated by the Rev Donald Redding in 1961. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 9/2/2023.
