The Anglican Cathedral Church of Christ the King, Ballarat Central is the Seat of the Bishop of Ballarat. The first Bishop was Samuel Thornton, installed on 11/8/1875. Anglican services began in Ballarat in the early 1850s. The first church building was dedicated on 13/9/1857. Plans for a new cathedral church began with the laying of a foundation stone on 30/11/1888. However with the event of the depression, although some building had begun, plans did not proceed as originally envisaged. Accordingly, over the years improvements and remodeling have been undertaken to conform as much as possible to a cathedral, and meet the needs of the congregation. More historical information/photographs of the cathedral/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 11/3/2017.
