Comments
The Nile Chapel, Deddington, is open to all Christian Denominations, owned by the permanent residents of Deddington, and controlled by Trustees, who are also permenent residents. The chapel is considered to have been erected at the instigation of the Rev Robert Russell from St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, Evandale. It was opened on 10/5/1841, for use primarily by Presbyterians, who were to have use of the chapel for 26 Sundays during the year. If they should fail to carry out such services then another Protestant body may supercede them in the use of the chapel. The chapel was erected on land donated by Mr Robert Pitcairn. The use of the chapel did not happen as envisaged, and the use of the chapel was opened for use by other Protestant ministers. The building was used as a school from about 1865 to 1885. The building has not been used as a place of worship for many years. A cemetery adjoins the chapel1. More historical information/photographs of the former chapel/congregation are invited.
