St Augustine's Catholic Church

The St Augustine's Catholic Church, Longford is part of the Parish of Kings Meadows and the Diocese of Hobart. A temporary place of worship was hired by the Rev Dr Butler, in December 1848, until a more suitable building could be erected. But this was not achieved until 7/11/1867, when the present church building was opened and dedicated by 'His Lordship the Bishop of Hobart Town', although not fully completd. The building had taken over eighteen months to the date of opening, due to the lack of funds to complete the roof. The depressed sate of the economy was a significant factor in the delay. Over the years alterations and additions, including a belfry and choir loft, have been added to the building. The church celebrated its sesquicenterary in Novemeber 2017.
