St Brigid's Catholic Church

The St Brigid's Catholic Church, Wynyard is part of the Parish of Burnie-Wynyard and the Diocese of Hobart. The present church building was opened in October 1912, by the Rev Monsignor Gilleran. The size of the building, for the number of parishioners and the size of the town, was a matter of some controversy between the local priest, the Rev T J O'Donnell and the Archbishop, who told the priest to reduce the size of the building. However, after the Archbishop had laid the foundation Stone and returned to Hobart, the priest carried on with his original plans. The first wooden church building, opened by Bishop Murphy on 26/11/1876, was removed to make way for the new building. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited.
