The former St Patrick's Catholic Church, Nackara closed in 1964, and the building has been demolished. The church had been part of  the Diocese of Port Pirie (formerly Port Augusta). The community consisted mainly of immigrants (many from Ireland and several Polsih families) and worked as sheep and cattle graziers, railway workers, wood carters, shearers and labourers. There was therefore a lively Catholic community, which held annual Picnics to raise money to erect a Catholic Church. A church was built and opened on 7/2/1897, earlier services, from about 1886, being held in tents. The area was too dry to support much livestock and when the railway was realigned several kilometres to the south around 1960, the town died. A corrugated iron Presbyterian church building has also gone. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photograph uploaded 23/11/2025.
