Comments
The former Morchard Methodist Church building ceased to be used for services in 1924, when the new church building was opened, next door, on 28/9/1924 (see separate entry - Morchard Uniting Church - Former - 5431). The present building was opened about 1893. It replaced an earlier structure opened in 1879, which, due to poor construction had to be dismantled and rebuilt on the same foundations. The building was erected for the Bible Christian Church, which became part of the Methodist Church at Union in 1900. Before the erection of this building, services were held in private homes and other locations. Discussions to enlarge the building, to meet the needs of the increasing congregation, began about 1913, but were dererred until 1919, with further deferrals unitil in 1923, when the decision to erect a new church building was taken.
