The Catacomb Church of Coober Pedy is part of the Diocese of Willochra. It was named after the Catacombs of Rome, where early Christians buried their dead, and met undisturbed in times of persecution. The church was established by the Bush Church Aid Society. The first resident minister, the Rev Barry Rainsford, was appointed in 1970. The property was also purchased in 1970, and completed sufficiently to hold services in October 1973. The Catacomb church was formally completed on 11/6/1977. Further development has been carried out to improve the Sunday School area and construct a Church Hall. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 17/9/2025.
