An information board records: Site of - St Mary Magdalene's Church of England - The first services were held in the district in 1879. - On January 16th, 1881 a building capable of seating 90 was dedicated. - Caltowie remained part of the Jamestown Parish until declining population brought about its closure on May 2nd. 1971. - The building was demolished and some of the furnishings are located in The Church of St James the Great, Jamestown.

The former St Mary Magdalane's Anglican Church, Caltowie closed on 2/5/1971, and the building was demolished. The church had been part of the Jamestown Parish and the Diocese of Willochra. The first services in the district was conducted in 1879, with the church building being opened on 16/1/1881. The church changed its name from Church of England in Australia and Tasmania to the Anglican Church of Australia on 1/1/1962.
