The St Aloysius Catholic Church, Sevenhill is part of the Parish of Sevenhill and the Diocese of Adelaide. The church is owned and operated by the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits). The first part of the church building was opened and dedicated in November 1866 by the Bishop of Adelaide, the Right Rev Dr Sheil. The building had been erected on land donated by Franz Welkert. Over the years a tower, extensions and other improvements to meet the needs of the congregation were carried out. The present day complex includes the church building, St Aloysius College, Sevenhill Cellars and the Sevenhill Cemetery, reflecting the settlement in the district of a group of Jesuits in the 1850s. A number of other buildings are in ruins. The group was also responsible for the establishment of 31 stone churches and 27 schools in the surrounding districts. The settlement also featured in the activities of St Mary MacKillop. The cemetery is located near the church. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 19/2/2024.
