The St Charles Anglican Church, West Mackay is part of the Mackay Anglican Cluster (together with Holy Trinity, Mackay; St Margaret's, Nebo; and St Ambrose, North Mackay) in the Diocese of North Queensland. The first church building began early in 1935 when a hall was erected at the Cnr Bridge Road and Holland Street to cater for the needs of this expanding area. The initiative was part of the ministry of the Parish of Holy Trinity. The first service was conducted in the new worship centre by Bishop Oliver Freetham on 9/6/1935. The Parish of West Mackay was formed on 8/11/1956. In 1957 the present land was purchased for the erection of a church and hall, the foundation stone being laid by Princess Alice. By 1981, the 1959 building no longer met the needs of the growing congregation, and it was decided to build a place exclusively for worship. The present building was completed and opened debt free on 41/7/1984, and consecrated on 14/10/1984 by The Rt Rev John Lewis, Bishop of North Queesnland1. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 14/12/2018.
