This is the second church building on this site. The first buildng, a stone structure,  erected in 1876 had to be demolished after being bady damaged in a storm in 1890. The present "temporary" wooden building was constructed in 1891. A small memorial reserve adjoins the church, representing the prior Milton-Paddington cemetery (closed in 1874), located beside the church that was removed to make way for future civic developments.
