A plaque records: Upper Tenthill Congregational Chapel -

  • In 1879 prior to the church being built, parishioners began conducting services in private homes around the Upper Tenthill district, these services being conducted by Mr S F Whitehead a foundation member of the Congregational Church in Queensland.
  • Parishioners soon felt the need for a church of their own and land was donated by local resident Mr James Logan Snr in a position that was central to the community.
  • The church was built on land described as follows, sub 1 of portion 85 County of Churchill, Parish of Tenthill, Area of land 1 rood, property value 100 pounds.
  • The Kilah family were strong supporters of the church over the years with Mr Harold Kilah becoming the first member of the church over the years to be ordained a minister of the Congregational Church.
  • Officially opened on 18 December 1881 the church continued to serve the community until it closed it's doors for the final time after a Centenary service in November 1979.
  • Offered to the Gatton and District Historical Society Inc in April 1983, it was eventually moved to the Historical Village on the 19 August 1984.
  • Upon completion of restoration work the church was redicated at a Dedication Service held at 2pm Sunday the 4th of November 1984 conducted by Mr Harland.
