The foundation stone was laid on 11/12/1876 by Mr E Gregory, with the Rev J Staughen presiding. The formal text of the fundation stone is not known. Information/photographs are invited.

A plaque by Ipswich City Council  records: Heritage Place - Ipswich Baptist Church - Constructed in 1876 this Gothic style building is the oldest - Baptist Church in Queensland. The front of the church was - altered in 1938, when according to a newspaper report it - was 'modernised with futuristic perpendicular architecture'.

The former Central Baptist Church, Ipswich property is now privately owned. When it was built in 1877 it was only the second Baptist Church in Queensland. The Memorial Gate was erected in 1954. Over the years a number of alterations and additions were carried out. It was sold by the Baptist Church in 2004.
