It is believed a congregation has existed at Kangaroo Point from about 1847. An earlier church was opened in July 1849 with a service by the Rev T W Bodenham. The present church, although subject to significant repairs and extensions over the years was opened by the First Bishop of Brisbane, Bishop Edward Tufnell on 5/11/1873.
