The original Union Presbyterian Church was built during the term of the first minister of the congregation, the Rev James Love. It was designed by Benjamin Backhouse and dedicated on 11/11/1864. Built of stone, the church commemorated the union between the Presbyterians of New South Wales and Queensland.

From 1865, it took the name 'Wickham Terrace Presbyterian Church'. By 1886, the building proved to be too small. The construction did not allow for extensions so it had to be pulled down before a new structure could be built. The congregation met in Divinity Hall on the same site until the new building was ready on 6 November 1887.

The building was resumed by the Railway Department about 1904. (see separate entry for City Congregation Church - Wickham Terrace).

More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photograph uploaded 15/6/2020.
