The Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Alice Springs is in the Parish of Alice Springs and part of the Diocese of Darwin. The first resident priest appointed to Alice Springs (formerly called Stuart) arrived on 26/5/1929. Work on the first church building began on 9/6/1929, and was constructed using mainly voluntary labour. It held its first celebration of Mass on 8/12/1929. The present church building was opened on 11/5/1969. A school run by nuns commenced on 28/2/1938, with classes held in the church and the infants in the porch.
