A plaque records: This stone is from the original Presbyterian - Church, which was the first church in - Wollongong, and was situated on the north-western corner of Crown & Church Streets. - This site was given by Charles Throsby Smith - Esq., September, 1837. The present site was - donated by William Lang Esq., December 1936 - This plaque is a memorial to the Presbyterian - Pioneers who founded and have maintained - St Andrew's from 1837 - September 1977. |

The City Central Presbyterian Church, Wollongong, previously known as St Andrew's, is in the Presbytery of Illawara and part of the Presbyterian Church in the State of NSW. The first St Andrew's Presbyterian Church building, was located on the corner of Crown and Church Streets, Wollongong. It was erected on land donated by Mr Charles Throsby Smith, and opened on 4/8/1839. The Rev John Tait was the minister. This church building was sold in 1936 and demolished in 1937.
The present church building was erected on land donated by a member of the congregation, Mr W A Lang. It was opened and dedicated on 19/2/1938 by the Very Rev Dr R G Macintyre, a previous Moderator General of the Presbyterian Church of Australia.
