Information board records: Trungley Hall - Trungley Station formerly Merool Baale, which was originally part of the vast Thrurungly Run was gazetted in the 1840s, consisting of 61,440 acres. Closer occupation began around 1890, when an influx of settlers of German descent, arrived in the Trungley Hall area, or Duck Creek as it was known then. Most of these pioneers were Australian born, coming from South Australia, Victoria and the Southern Riverina. - The area was covered with dense vegetaion, and much manual clearing had to be done. By 1897, the road from the first hall to Temora, a distance of 14 miles, had been 'nicely cleared', and a grant of land for the public cemetery had been obtained. A twice weekly mail service, a receiving office, and a public school had been applied for. In 1898, the Trungley provisional school was opened. - The first Lutheran Church (of sod walls) was constructed in 1893. The Lutheran Manse was built in 1906, at a cost of £625, and a church school was opened the same year. The foundation stone for a new church was laid in 1910, and the Zion Lutheran Church, costing £1,100, was dedicated the following year. In 1948, the church school closed. The church hall was erected in 1949, at a cost of £300. Over the years it has been the venue for many events, including meetings, parties and weddings. In 1985, the Manse was destroyed by fire. - Since early settlement, the Trungley area has boasted at least nine schools, the final one closing in 1969. The Trungley Hall Post Office, which had been sited at many different locations over the yeras, and undergone several name changes, finally closed in 1981.
