This former Nelson Bay Methodist Church is now privately owned.
An historic notice board records: First church in Nelson Bay. The church was built in 1909 for the Methodists on land made available by William Cromarty and from funds donated by local and English people. It has been extensively altered in the intervening years by extensions, removal of belfry and change of piers from wooden to brick. Before its construction, a non-denominational Sunday School was conducted for nearly thirty years by James Dalton, Captain John Dalton's brother, most of the time at the old customs shed at which quarterly church services were also held.
More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 5/1/2018 & 28/5/2021.
