Foundation Stone Notes: | A stone records: This stone was laid by - Patrick Francis Cardinal Moran - Archbishop of Sydney - on Sunday 16.5.97. A plaque records: The foundation stone of this Church of St Joseph - was laid on the 4th April 1869. - The original nave section of the Church - was opened and blessed by - Archbsihop John Bede Polding OSB of Sydney - and Bishops of Bathurst, Goulburn - and Maitland Dioceses 30th April 1871. - St Joseph has been declared Universal Patron of the Church - by Pope Pius IX in 1870. - St Mary of the Cross MacKillop - visited Orange in Janusry 1876. A plaque records: Parishioners of the Parish of St Mary and St Joseph, Orange, acknowledge - that the traditional owners of this land are the Wiradjuri people, and that - this church is built on land of which the Wiradjuri have been custodians - for thousands of years. The Wiradjuri people welcome you to their country - and we all welcome you here. Creator God, you made this land and all good things. You gave your Son - Jesus Christ to reconcile the world to you. Bestow us with a spirit of love,- forgiveness, acceptance and reconciliation. May your love be the foundation - on which we build our families, our community and our nation. - Amen. |
