A stone below the foundation stone records: Foundation Stone laid 17.3.1845 - Consecrated by Bishop Broughton - Bishop of Australia 31.12.1845. Notice Board records: Christ Church Bong Bong was built by Charles Throsby (Jnr) who inherited the estate from his uncle Dr Charles Throsby after his death in 1828. His uncle had received a large grant from Governor Macquarie for his various explorations in opening up the 'New Country'. Charles Jnr took over the Throsby Park estate, and married Elizabeth Broughton in 1824, eventually having 17 children, building the fine Throsby Park homestead in the 1830s. He donated land for a church, glebe and cemetery, and financed the building of the church, which was consecrated in 1845 by the first Bishop of Ausatralia. Sadly he died in 1854 but Elizabeth devoted herself to this church for many years, financing major renovations and additions in 1884. She died in 1891. |

The Christ Church Anglican Church, Bong Bong (Moss Vale) is part of the Parish of Berrima cum Moss Vale and the Diocese of Sydney. The church building was erected by Charles Throsby in 1845 on land he also donated, and was consecrated by the first Bishop of Australia, W G Broughton on 31/12/1845. At the centenary celebrations, in 1945, 17 Bhutan cypresses were planted, one of each of the Throsby children. The church celebrated its 180th anniversary on 1/1/2026. A cemetery adjoins the church and contains the remains of relatives of my wife's family. A crypt is situated under the church, intended for the Throsby family, but has never been used.
