The former St Mary's Presbyterian Church, Lithgow closed some years ago, and the property was sold. Th church was formerly part of the Presbyterian Church in the State of New South Wales. The church was built as a memorial to Mrs Mary Brown [nee Maxwell, 1804-1878], and was financed entirely by Mr Thomas Brown. He and Mary arrived from Scotland shortly after they were married in 1838. He became a significant land holder, politician and Magistrate. More historical information/photographs of the former church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 4/4/2020.

Sydney Morning Herald. 18/3/1880 - “Mr Thomas Brown, of Eskbank, laid the foundation stone of St Mary’s Presbyterian Church, Eskbank, today. There was a good attendance, and addresses were delivered by Rev. W. McKenzie, of Bowenfels; the Rev. Alfred Fry, of Balmain, and Mr Targett, of Lithgow. A handsome presentation trowel and mallet were presented to Mr Brown by a member of the Presbyterian Church. The church is intended as a memorial of the late Mrs Brown, and is built entirely at the expense of Mr Brown. It is in the early Gothic style, and will cost £1200.” [Sourced from: https://trove.nla.gov.au/newspaper/article/13456153?searchTerm=%22St%20Mary%27s%20Presbyterian%20Church%2C%20Eskbank%22].
