Murrurundi Presbyterian Church - Former

This former Murrurundi Presbyterian Church closed many years ago and the property is now privately owned. The first Minister arrived some time before 1842, as a tutor on a property. He also conducted services, beginning about 1843, and held in a 'bark hut'. Land was donated by Mr Thomas Heydon in 1845, and a church was erected sometime around 1950, during the tenure of the Rev Alexander Black. A number of vacancies occurred between 1874~1886, which occasioned the closure of the church for a period. The present church building was erected about 1886 during the tenure of the Rev W F Frazer, and appears to have replaced the earlier structure, although possibly not on the same site. Over the years the church had periods of growth and decline, including during the period 1921 to 1935 when it was a Home Mission Station¹.
