The foundation stone for the present brick building, essentially the nave, records: To the Glory of God - This stone was laid by - The Right Reverend Henry Edward Cooper DD - Lord Bishop of Grafton and Armidale - Charles Rosenthal  ARIBA ARVIA ~ Architect - August 22nd 1904.

The foundation stone for the chancel, transepts and vestries records: To the Glory of God - This stone was laid by - The Most Reverend John Charles Wright DD - Primate of Australia - September 18th 1913.

The foundation stone for the Tower and Spire records: This stone was set by - His Excellency Sir Philip Game - GBE KCB DSO - Governor of New South Wales - Blessed by - The Right Rev John William Ashton MA SC - Bishop of Grafton - 29th October 1934 - G H Godsell FRIBA ~ Architect - George Polain TH L ~ Rector - William Braid - Builder 

A plaque records: To The Glory of God - this tablet is erected to - commemorate the visit of - The Most Reverend and - Right Honourable - Cyril Forester Garbftt, MA DD - Lord Archbishop of York - Primate of England - who peached in this church - on the morning of Sunday - 4th November 1951 - Christopher E Storrs , Bishop - John M L Robinson, Rector.

Comments

The St Andrew's Anglican Church, Lismore is part of the Parish of Lismore and the Diocese of Grafton. The first church building was a wooden structure erected about 1871, and was a Garrison Church. The nave of the present church building was opened and dedicated on 10/11/1905, and there was a temporary wooden sanctuary. The original wooden church building being used for another fifty years as the church hall. The erection of the chancel, tansepts and vestries followed some years later, and were dedicated along with a pipe organ on 7/8/1914 by the Right Rev Cecil Henry Druitt, Bishop of Grafton. The Tower and Spire were dedicated by the Most Rev Howard Mowll, Archbishop of Sydney, on 16/6/1935. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited.
