The Salvation Army - Hurstville began when the first two officers, Captain Alfred Hodges and Lieutenant Sam Mitchell were appointed on 16/7/1899. The first Citadel was opened on 26/7/1919 by The National Commander, Commissioner Mrs James Hay. To meet the growing needs of the Corps the present building was opened by The Territorial Commander, Commissoner Frederick Coutts on 2/12/1961. Today another demountable building has also been erected to meet the needs of the Hurstville Corps Chinese speaking congregation.
