Helensburgh Anglican Church

The Helensburgh  Anglican Church is part of the Parish of Helensburgh and Stanwell Park (and functions in conjunction with the Stanwell Anglican Church) and part of the Diocese of Sydney. The first record of a service in Helensburgh was under a gum tree, and conducted by the Rev Walker Taylor. Services were then held in a demountable building called St Anne's. By 1887 planning began for a permanent place of worship, however changes in railway camps resulted in services being moved to the School of Arts and private homes. In 1891 the Rev Joseph Bosworth was appointed to the district and oversaw the erection of the first weatherboard church building, which was opened on 29/5/1892 by the Archbishop. It was named the Church of the  Holy Redeemer. Over the years the church has had many highs and lows some occasioned by local mine disasters, while carrying out many additions and renovations to the original church building, to meet the needs of the congregation. A new hall was erected about 1995, which was to be used as an interim church. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 4/8/2026
