| Foundation Stone Notes: | A foundation stone records: This stone was laid - by - Mrs T W Lee - 13th May 1911. In 1919 a Memorial Plaque to Figtree's dead and an Honour Roll for the 26 parishioners who served in the Great War were erected in the Figtree Church. No Foundation Stone or Memorial Plaque details are known for the 1983 or the present church building. Information/photographs are invited. |

Comments
The Figtree Anglican Church is part of the Parish of Figtree (with Soldiers and Miners' Memorial Church, Mount Kembla) and part of the Diocese of Sydney. The church began about December 1880. A Sunday School was started in 1888 in a home belongng to Mr James Buckland, by the Rev W A M Cockerill, with 16 children present. This Sunday School was strongly supported by teacher, Mrs Margaret Jessie Lee, who raised a loan to erect a wooden slab stucture for use by the Sunday School, on leased land. This building was then used monthly for church services, and had to be extended to accommodate the congregation, during the ministry of the Rev F R Elder (1892-1898). This structure was replaced when a new church building was erected and opened on 14/11/1911 by Archdeacon Gunter. A replacement church building, on a new site, was then erected and held its first divine service on 11/9/1983. This building was erected after overcoming many challenging issues, while remaining focused on its true ministry, and formally opened on 30/10/1983 by Bishop Harry Goodhew1. In subsequent years, strong growth in the congregation led to the need for a larger facility, resutling in a major redevelopment being undertaken in 2003.
