Foundation Stone Notes: | (Sydney Morning Herald - 20 April 1875) "CHURCH OF ENGLAND, DUBBO.—On Saturday, the 10th instant (as reported in the Dispatch), the foundation stone of the new Church of England church was laid by the Hon. Sir Alfred Stephen, C.B., K.C.M.G. There was a large attendance of the leading members of the Church of England, as well as of other denominations; and the following ministers were present ;—Rev. J. H. Mullens, incumbent of Trinity Church, Dubbo; Rev. Mr. Vaughan, Church of England, Wellington ; Rev. O. B. Greig, Presbyterian; and Rev. C. W. Phillips, Wesleyan. After the usual ceremony, Sir Alfred Stephen delivered a short but forcible address, and the scroll was read which was to be placed in the bottle. It set out the names of the committee, trustees, and all the other information usually contained in such documents. This, with copies of the local papers, coins of the realm, &c, were placed in a bottle, and deposited in a cavity prepared for the purpose. The stone having been adjusted, Sir Alfred spread the mortar, and gently tapping the stone with the mallet, declared it to be well and truly laid." (Australian Town & Country Journal - 25 March 1876) "DUBBO. Monday. The new Church of England Church was opened yesterday by the Bishop of Bathurst, in the presence ol a very large assemblage. £85 was collected. Tho Bishop preached morning and evening. The church was designed by Edmund Blackett, the builder of the church was W. Moffit at a cost of £ 3,500 and the stone used in the construction was quarried near the Macquarie River in West Dubbo."
