Foundation Stone Notes: | An historic notice records: Historic Site - From 1859 St Andrew's Presbyterian Church services had been held in the Eden Courthouse and when George Barclay died he bequeathed land in Chandos Street for a church. It was named St George's and the foundation stone was laid by Barclay's widow 24.5.1865. The names of the NSW Governor, Members of The Illawarra Presbytery, The Building Committee and Rev A Boddie the Minister and Master of Ceremonies were sealed in a bottle. The church was opened by Rev J Dunmore Lang on 2.6.1866. It is one of the oldest in the state still holding services. |
