Molong Argus (NSW: 1896 - 1921), Friday 19 February 1904, page 8). "Cumnock. Laying the Foundation Stone, St. Matthew's Church Wednesday, 17th instant, was an eventful day in Cumnock Church history. The little Church of St. Matthew, which has marked the rise and progress of this important western part of the parish of Molong for about 22 years past, has been found unequal to the wants of the Church people attending. About five months ago it was decided to build space rather more than equal to the present nave. It was also decided that the first stone of the extensions be laid on Wednesday, 17th February, by Mrs. S. P. Reynolds, wife of one of the active and progressive Wardens for Cumnock..1."

A plaque records: This extension to the church - was dedicated by - The Rt Reverend Howell Witt  - Bishop of Bathurst - on - 26th April 1986 - To the Glory of God and in memory of - The Pioneers and Past Worshippers - Rector: Reverend Richard John Stockdale.
