The foundation stone for the first Congregational Church building records: This stone was laid by - R W Hardie Esq - 18th Aug 1923 - Reset on Erection of Porch April 1935.

The foundation stone for the second Congregational Church building was laid on 6/6/1959. The text on the foundation stone is not known. Information/photographs are invited.

The foundation stones for the first Thornleigh Methodist Church building were laid  on 5/10/1907 by Miss Vickery, Rowland H Ducker and Thomas Parker Reeve.The text on the foundation stones is not known. Information/photographs are invited.

Comments

The present Thornleigh Hillcrest Uniting Church, Thornleigh is an amlgamation of the following congregations :

  • Pennant Hills (Hillcrest Road) Congregational Church, whose first building was opened on 27/10/1923 by Mrs Sibree. The second was opened on 10/10/1959. The congregation joined following Union in 1977.
  • Thornleigh Methodist Church, whose first church building was opened on 9/2/1908 by the Rev W Rodd. The congregation joined following Union in 1977.
  • St David's Presbyterian Church, Thornleigh - some congregational members joined the Uniting Church when St David's closed in 1978. It did not join the Uniting Church in 1977.

In 1996, morning services at Thornleigh ceased and combined morning services began at the Hillcrest Road centre. In 2002 the Hillcrest Road property was sold to the Danish Church (see separate entry).  The Thornleigh stie was cleared to make way for a new Worship and Community Centre, which was opened in April 2003.
