Comments

The Leigh Memorial Uniting Church, Parramatta building, opened on 21/6/1885, and is the third church building to stand on the same site. The first was the Walter Lawry Chapel in 1821, the second the Macquarie Hall in 1839. It was named after the Rev Samuel Leigh the first Methodist Missionary to arrive in Australia in 1815. A Fijian congregation also meets in the church property. The original spire was damaged by lightening in 1919, and had to be removed for safety reasons. More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 28/12/2020.
