The Silver Street Mission grew out of the earlier Marrickville Baptist Church, as a relaunch of the church's ministry in 1999. The Marrickville Baptist Church began about 1887 as a church plant of the Petersham Baptist Church, and moved to the present site in 1889. The present church building was opened in 1961.
