The Salvation Army - Dee Why was founded about 1917, although it has had a longer presence in the area. Facebook also records a Founding date - 1885 - Elizabeth Jenkins.
"The story of the beginnings of the Dee Why community itself is tinged with a religious influence. Hundreds of acres were granted to James Jenkins around 'Dewy Lagoon' in 1834. When the last of his family died in 1900, she had given or bequeathed hundreds of acres to the Salvation Army. The Army used parts of the land thus acquired for social welfare purposes, gradually subdividing and selling off parts of the rest, starting in 1912. The Salvationists organized a Corps around the turn of the century, being the first Christian denomination at work in Dee Why."1
More historical information/photographs of the church/congregation are invited. Photographs uploaded 24/8/2020.
