The present St Bernard's Catholic Church, Botany building was erected in 1956, on a new site.. The foundation stone for the first church was laid on 11/9/1860, on land donated by Edward Lord in Botany Road. It was later renovated and enlarged, and re-opened on 12/5/1895 by Cardinal Moran. This site was acquired by the government in 1954. The current church was subsequently erected on a site in Ramsgate Street.
