A plaque records: Unveiled to the Glory of God - by - The Right Rev A C Grieve BA Moderator - 31st July 1937 - This stone was part of the original church - founded by the Rev John Tait, 27th Sept. 1837 - Rev M S Campbell ~ Minister.

A plaque records: This stone is from the original Presbyterian - Church, which was the first church in - Wollongong, and was situated on the north-western corner of Crown & Church Streets. - This site was given by Charles Throsby Smith - Esq., September, 1837. The present site was - donated by William Land Esq., December 1936 - This plaque is a memorial to the Presbyterian - Pioneers who founded and have maintained - St Andrew's from 1837 - September 1977.

Comments

The City Central Presbyterian Church, Wollongong, previously known as St Andrew's. The first St Andrew's Presbyterian Church, was located on the corner of Crown and Church Streets, Wollongong. It was erected on land donated by Mr Charles Throsby Smith, and opened on 4/8/1837. The Rev John Tait was the minister. It was sold in 1936.

The present church building was erected on land donated by a member of the congregation, Mr W A Lang. It was opened by a previous Moderator General of the Presbyterian Church of Australia, the Very Rev Dr R G Macintyre, on 19/2/1938.
