The ceremony in connection with the laying of the memorial stone of St. Nicholas' Church, Coogee, was performed by the Most Rev. the Primate on Saturday afternoon. (Daily Telegraph - 28 November 1887) "CONSECRATION OF ST. NICHOLAS' AT COOGEE. The new church of St. Nicholas at Coogeee, in the parish of Randwick, was opened on Saturday afternoon under somewhat unfavorable circumstances. Considerable preparations had been made for the religious service, and but for the continuous rain a large congregation would have assembled. As it was the church was about three parts filled.
In August 1905 the church building was almost completed destroyed by fire.
(Evening News - 19 August 1905) "FIRE AT COOGEE. ANOTHER ANGLICAN CHURCH DESTROYED. A MYSTERIOUS OUTBREAK. St. Nicolas' Anglican Church which stood on a fine site at the intersection of Carr and Brook streets, Coogee was last night destroyed by fire. So rapid was the work of destruction that, though the fire brigades were out with all smartness, the saving of the building was an impossibility. The church was reopened in 1906 and the current Fincham organ was purchased from Newcastle Cathedral."
