A plaque records: This church was consecrated by William Grant Broughton DD First Bishop of Australia on 10th September 1845. This tablet was unveiled 100 years later by the Most Reverend H W K Mowll DD Archbishop of Sydney. A S Herrod, W C Hemery, E E Bond - Church Wardens. John Hope Rector.

The Christ Church St Laurence building was consecrated on 10/9/1845 by The Bishop of Australia, William Grant Broughton.

"The first Anglican service for the Parish of St Lawrence in the southern portion of the township of Sydney was held on 28 October 1838 in a storeroom in the Albion Brewry near the corner of Elizabeth and Abion Streets, Surry Hills. This store served as a temporary place of worship before the construction of Christ Church" 1.
