The St Thomas' Anglican Church, Port Macquarie is in the Parish of Port Macquarie and the Diocese of Grafton. Early services were conducted in he open air by the Rev Thomas Hassall from about 1825. The church building was erected by convict labour under military supervision with the first service conducted by Rev John Cross on 4/2/1828. The Colonial Chapel of Christ the Healer was completed earlier and still in use in association with the church. The initial worshippers consisted of the Chaplain, Camp Commandant and a detachment of British Infantry and the well guarded prisoners.
