The St James' Anglican Church, Bowning is part of the Parish of Yass and the Diocese of Canberra & Goulburn. It was opened and dedicated by the Ven  Archdeacon Puddicombe in February 1879. Services ceased prior to 1977 and the building fell into disrepair. In the late 1980s efforts to revive and open country churches led to St James' being restored and re-dedicated on 3/11/1990 by Bishop Ian George. On 5/5/1999 the church celebrated its 120th anniversay, with the Rt Rev Godfrey Fryer officiating.
