(Empire, Sydney - 19 March 1862)   "NEW CHURCH OF ST. MATTHEW, BOTANY. LAYING THE FOUNDATION STONE. The interesting and impressive ceremony of laying the foundation stone of a new church, in connection with the Anglican Church, took place yesterday, at Botany. The erection of a church in this locality has long been desired, and for a considerable lime contemplated by the members of the Church of Englond, dwelling in that neighbourhood, and after some difficulty and an energetic struggle on the part of those comprising the congregation of the temporary churoh of that communion, sufficient funds have, with the aid of the Church Society, been collected to enable them to build a commodious, neat, and substantial church. The site on which it is to be erected, is about twenty yards to the left of the road leading from Sydney to Botany, and about equidistant from, and lying in the valley between the hills, on which stand the Roman Catholic Church and the Wesleyan Chapel."

The formal text of the foundation stone is not known. Information/photographs are invited.
